Marian the Librarian, was feted at a retirement dinner on Saturday, January 3, 2015 after serving the reading public for over 25 years. Marian was hired in 1980 as the Children’s Librarian and held several positions including reference librarian and systems administrator, She was named Library Director in 2005.
Speaker after speaker gave glowing reports on what the library had become under the leadership of Marian: computerization, expansion, new programs for children (including the Mayor’s Book Club) and computer classes. Township Committeeman Randy Bishop thanked Marian for her help in setting up a mobile facility along the Shark River during Superstorm Sandy. Neptune residents were able to reach family and friends using the laptops supplied by the library and were among the first to apply for FEMA assistance.
In 2007, Neptune Public Library was voted “One of the Best’ libraries in Monmouth County by readers of the Asbury Park Press. Marian shares, “I am most proud of our reputation as a very friendly library, where people can come to the get the help they need. That tradition will continue under the leadership of Acting Director, John Bonney”.
