Under Municipal Ordinance No. 14-36 as amended, buildings and related structures must be secured and maintained so as not to reduce the neighborhood’s quality of life.

Abandoned properties, particularly those located within urban areas or in close proximity to occupied residences and businesses, create a wide range of problems for the communities, in which they are located, fostering criminal activity, creating public health problems and otherwise diminishing the quality of life for residents and business operators in those areas. Abandoned properties diminish the property values of neighboring properties and have a negative effect on the quality of life of adjacent property owners, increasing the risk of property damage through arson and vandalism and discouraging neighborhood stability and revitalization.

For these reasons, abandoned properties are presumptively considered to be nuisances, in view of their negative effects on nearby properties and the residents or users of those properties. The continued presence of abandoned properties in Neptune Township acts as a significant barrier to revitalization.

A winter storm is expected to impact most of New Jersey on Friday night into Saturday, bringing snow, sleet, and hazardous driving conditions. All Neptune Township residents (especially Ocean Grove residents due to the narrow streets) are reminded that Snow Parking Regulations go into effect as soon as the roads are snow-covered. Snow Parking Regulations ensure our DPW can properly clear and salt the streets. Vehicles in Ocean Grove must be parked as indicated by the posted signs, and vehicles in the rest of Neptune Township must be parked on the odd-numbered side of the street.
