Neptune gets its name from Roman God of the Sea. The Township was formed in 1879. Neptune Township has a land area of 8 square miles and is situated in the central easternmost part of Monmouth County. Neptune is a community with several diverse neighborhoods including Ocean Grove, Shark River Hills, Mid-Town, Bradley Park, the Gables, Seaview Island and West Neptune.
The Township has been known as the Crossroads of the Jersey Shore due to the major corridors which cross through and border the Township/ Neptune Township is accessible from Garden State Parkway exits 100 and 102, with State Highways 18, 33, 35, 66 and 71 within its’ borders. Neptune Township is also accessible by New Jersey Transit trains (Bradley Beach/Neptune Station), and major bus routes and local taxi service. Neptune Township is home to Jersey Shore Medical Center, the Regional Trauma Center for Central Jersey.
