Winter Storm Fern – Sunday Morning Update
Saturday 1/25 8:00AM - Heavy snow is currently falling, with 3” of snow already in the ground and more falling at a rate 1-2” per hour. Neptune Township OEM continues to monitor the ongoing winter storm, and has activated our Emergency Operations Center to ensure coordination and communication between all Township agencies. Public Works began plowing and salting operations early this morning and will continue throughout the storm. Please stay off the roads, and read the updates below.
Forecast Update (via Tri-State Storm Watch):
Based on upstream observations, radar, and short range guidance, will bump up forecasted snow amounts by a couple of inches. Still believe the change to sleet occurs around 1pm to 3pm in central NJ. Precipitation amounts look higher between now and Noon as do snow ratios for the first few hours of the storm so an increase in snow accumulations is warranted: Central NJ (all of Monmouth, Mercer, Middlesex, northern Ocean): 8 to 12 inches plus an inch of sleet, some rain still possible along the immediate coast towards evening.
Recommendations from NTOEM:
• This morning, our most important recommendation is to STAY OFF OF THE ROADS. Snowfall will be heaviest between now and Sunday afternoon, with 1-2” falling per hour. Unless it’s an emergency, we are urging all residents to stay home.
• Snow Parking Regulations are in effect. If you are not parked in accordance with the regulations, your vehicle may be towed. Vehicles in Ocean Grove must be parked as indicated by the posted signs, and vehicles in the rest of Neptune Township must be parked on the odd-numbered side of the street. To view a full list of streets, visit: https://ecode360.com/35322006
• Snow parking remains in effect until the snow emergency is cancelled. It is estimated that it takes 12-16 hours to fully clear the streets once all precipitation has stopped, so please be patient, stay off the roads, and do not move your vehicles until snow parking has been lifted.
