Annual Spring fundraising auction will see changes for 2016, including the addition of professional auctioneer Art Kravetz and unusual “experience” auctions

The Historical Society of Ocean Grove’s annual spring fundraising auction will take place on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Youth Temple of the Camp Meeting Association in Ocean Grove, NJ. Previews are 9:00 – 11:00 AM; the auction begins at 11:00 AM. Regular attendees will notice some changes this year. HSOG has engaged auctioneer Art Kravetz of Kravetz Auctions in Toms River, NJ, to preside over the event. Kravetz is a skilled auctioneer known for “moving things along”, so attendees can expect an exciting, fast-moving event this year.

Additionally, HSOG’s recording secretary Kim Brittingham has stepped up to chair the Spring Auction Committee, bringing a new feature to the event: “experience” auctions. High bidders will have opportunities to experience Ocean Grove in ways few others ever will. Here are just three of several packages being offered:
  •  July 4th VIP Package at Day’s Ice Cream – After the July 4th fireworks, the line at Day’s Ice Cream stretches around the block, but the winner of this auction and three guests will be able to cut to the front of the line and enjoy their ice cream at a reserved table on the dining porch.
  •  Dinner in the Tali Esen Morgan House – Four people will have the privilege of dining inside one of Ocean Grove’s most splendid Victorian homes, the Tali Esen Morgan House, a private residence. The circa 1900 home has hosted notables from Enrico Caruso to Helen Hayes. Dinner includes a tour by the homeowner.
  •  VIP Parade Package – Five lucky folks will view the Ocean Grove July 4th Parade from the shady raised porch of historic Centennial Cottage, enjoying a superior view, comfortable porch rockers, and refreshments.

Other surprise packages will be revealed on auction day.

As always, the auction will include antiques and collectibles and a wide array of rare Ocean Grove memorabilia. Items offered this year include a mirror from the old North End bath house etched with an advertisement for the former Homestead Restaurant on the Ocean Grove boardwalk; an “Admission 50 cents” sign from the old Strand Movie Theater; souvenir “Ocean Grove” ruby flash glassware from the 1890s; salvaged gingerbread trim from an Ocean Grove tent; 19th century printing blocks used for Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Annual Reports; vintage dishware from the North End Hotel, and much more. Some auction items are on view in the window of the Historical Society’s museum at 50 Pitman Avenue, Ocean Grove.

Another new item to be auctioned for Spring 2016 is a custom-designed, one-of-a-kind Ocean Grove beach towel. It is exclusive to the auction. The towel cannot be purchased elsewhere and the high bidder will own the only one of its kind.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Historical Society of Ocean Grove.
